Most of us, at some point or another, have turned a room into a storage area with stuffs that were once so dear to us. Looking at that room now seem to be so cluttered and will take time to sort things out. Having that room de-cluttered will turn that area from once useless to something useable.
Cluttered rooms create more stress in a household and are a constant reminder that you did not accomplish that goal you have. For instance, you have to replace some home décor – like paintings – and do not want to buy new ones because you know that you have kept something but because that room cluttered, you cannot find those landscape paintings. Once you organize that room again, you will never bother digging in again into that pile of old things. Moreover, you can find some stuff that can are re-useable when you start de-cluttering your room – hence, it will save you from buying the same stuff again.
You can start by taking all the stuff in that room out. Now, have some shelves placed in that room. Having shelves will help you locate an item easily. Do not hide things inside a cardboard box because it can create more clutter than you have expected. Never fall for moving companies that sell you cardboard boxes and promises that they will buy back those cardboard boxes once you do not use them because it will only create more clutter. The natural tendency of having cardboard boxes is that you use those boxes and never see your stuffs again. If you do not want shelves, it is recommended that you use clear plastic containers instead for you to see what is inside easily.
Have your items organized in groups interrelated to how often you use those items. Have the things you could do with daily in an area, the stuffs you need on a monthly basis in another area and the items you will use seasonally in another area. Having these grouping will help you locate items once you need to use them.
In organizing things this way, there are three goals you accomplished. The first one is you will reduce your stress. The second is that you will able to find thing with no trouble. And the third one is you will have a free space to do things that you having putting off because you do not have any space before.
So plan your activities for that free space like doing your exercise routine – you can now place some of your equipment like treadmills, stair stepping machines or that mounted bike. Have your kids play in that area – place a play pen for your toddlers – or have some indoor party with your friends and put some conversational pieces.
Bottom line is that you have a more relaxed home and more space. Hence, you have saved up some money from buying stuffs that you already have. And who would not be proud of what you have accomplished?
